Recently, we completed the Miraculous Sermon Series at The Blue Point Bible Church. You can certainly find some ‘sermon reviews on our YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/@bluepointbiblechurch2059).
The idea behind the series was that we must not only learn but discern the miracles, with the ‘eyes of our hearts’ and find not only the deeper meaaning but our participation in the miracles.n If you don’t “see” and participate in the miraculous, you will find yourself living in disatisfaction, in want, and experiencing loss.
(Each week we provided a resource to accompany the sermon, some resources I have made available below, others we might be able to make available upon request.)

In this wrap-up, I will revisit the learning & discerning that was done through each miracle.
1 – Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11)
In the 1st miracle of Jesus Christ we learn of Jesus transforming the Old Covenant purification waters into great tasting wine at the Wedding in Cana (John 2:1-11). As we discern that the miracle was only possibly because the sevants did everything that Jesus Christ told them to do (as ‘Mother Mary’ instructed), we find application regarding God’s miraculous transformative power in our lives, essentially how God makes new wine out of us and this brings us joy and joy to others.

2 – Resurrection of the Nobleman’s Son (John 4:46-54)
In our learning of Jesus Christ’s 2nd miracle, His resurrecting the nobleman’s son from death (John 4:46-54), we are encouraged that the power of God is not limited by time and space. As we discern the power and purpose of that resurrection power we find our call to “newness of life” (cf. Romans 6:4).

3.) – The Man At The Pool In Bethesda (John 5:1-17)
Learning about the man at the pool and Bethesda and his interaction with Jesus Christ (John 5:1-17), Jesus’s 3rd miracle, helps us examine ourselves and do the dicerning work of responding to Jesus’ question, “Do you want to be well?”. Just as that man was charged to “pick up your mat and walk”, so we too must do something (‘healthy church engagement’)and rid ourselves our wordly mentalities to see God’s work, what’s beyong human possibilities.

4.) Feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1-15)
In the story of Jesus Christ, “feeding the 5,000” in John 6:1-15, Jesus’ 4th miracle, we learn and discern the meaning of Jesus Christ being the “Bread of Life”, our very “Bread from heaven”, providing provision, sustenance, and substance. In blessing us with this bread, He calls us to be this bread to others, carrying forth His preseence & purpose.

5.) Walking On Water (John 6:16-21)
Jesus Christ’s 5th miracle was His “walking on water” as recorded in John. We learn the story of Peter being challenged to “get out of the boat” and thus his walking on water. Similarly, as we set out eyes on Jesus, as Author & Finisher of our faith, we are called to get out of the boat and experience challenge & trust in our relationship with God. We are encouraged to view the sea in this text as parabolic to the issues of life and thus walking on water represents our overcoming the things of this life througgh Jesus Christ.

6.) A Man Born Blind (John 9:1-10:42)
In the story of “a man born blind” in John 9:1-10:42, Jesus’ 6th miracle, we find allusiuon to the metaphor blindness that was detailed in Ezekiel chapter 12, and we find substance in Jesus’ response to the situation – “This has happened so that the work of God might be displayed”. Discernment leads us to appreciate and trust God’s sovereign work in opening the eyes of the hearts of His people to His truth, His presence, & His purpose.

7.) Resurrection of Lazarus (John chapters 11-12)
Jesus 7th miracle, the resurrection of Lazarus as recorded in John 11-12, gives us plenty to learn & discern. Consider Jesus’ perspective (see, John 11:1-4, 11-15). Consider all the other responses (Disciples, Thomas, Martha, Mary, etc). Keep in mind, these worldly responses of His people caused Jesus Christ to cry. How are you responding to all that is going on in the world? Examine yourself. Do something!
