This past Wednesday, we hosted an online Bibe Study. Pastor Michael Miano led the teaching introducing us to the Book of Isaiah, mentioning the “Eschatology Of The Prophets Conference” in 2026, and reminding us of good hermenuetical principles top use in our reading of Scripture.
As an ‘end of the year’ Bible reading outline, Pastor Mike shared an outline that brings you through the Old Testament prophets daily. You can find the outline at the link below (copies will be provided at church service this Sunday), https://biblereadingplangenerator.com/?start=2025-11-05&total=56&format=calendar&order=traditional&daysofweek=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&books=ISA,JER,LAM,EZK,DAN,HOS,JOL,AMO,OBA,JON,MIC,NAM,HAB,ZEP,HAG,ZEC,MAL&lang=en&logic=words&checkbox=1&colors=0&dailypsalm=0&dailyproverb=0&otntoverlap=0&reverse=0&stats=0&dailystats=0&nodates=0&includeurls=0&urlsite=biblegateway&urlversion=NIV

Scripture – Isaiah chapters 1-3
Observation
- We noted that Isaiah’s prophecy refers primarily to the Babylonian invasion of 586 B.C., wherein we find judement and a partial fulfillment of the promise and then in the events of A.D. 66 – 70 we find judgement and complete fulfillment of the promise in Jesus Christ. All things are truly “yes” and “amen” in Jesus Christ (see, 2 Corinthians 1:20). We talked about types and antitype.
- In Isaiah chapters 1-3 we find “heaven and earth” language (bringing us to the beginning of the Bible and the end, we find reference to Sodom and Gomorrah (which does the same), as well as ‘mountain language’.
- We found ample opportunity to talk about “Hebrew Exclusivity”, “Audience Relevance”, and “Time Statements” as we looked at Isaiah chapters 1-3. Also, we mentioned allusions to Psalsm (Hebrew exlcusivity, trust in chariots, etc.)
- Discussion regarding the benefit of reading large chunks of Scripture was discussion with reference thoughts shared by Pete Enns and Gary DeMar.
“As soon as the Bible was given chapter and verse numbers (which happened between the 13th and 16th centuries), it opened the door to thinking of the Bible as a series of discreet, stand alone, verses. Imagine a world where there were no verse numbers in the Bible! It might reorient our brains to think of the Bible as extended discources rather than isolated prooftexts – in other words to read these ancient writings as they were intended”. – Pete Enns

Application
- Don’t be like Sodom & Gomorrah (no idolatry, be kind to the stranger, etc.)
- Be peacemakers
- Don’t grow weary doing good
We opened and closed in Prayer, including a time of praise & prayer in the mighty & powerful name of Jesus Christ.
