Tonight we studied Ezekiel chapters 39-40.
First we surveyed context & the historical scene.
Is it possible that the Book of Ezekiel is about events during and after Ezekiel’s time involving the warring Babylonians and then the Persians? Yes.
Ezekiel chapters 38-39 are cited in the Book of Revelation.
Is it possible that the Book of Revelation is about events that happened (“soon”) prior to and including the total annihilation of the Jewish temple and nation in AD 70 by the Romans? Yes.
So as we read & discussed the details we found that the judgement language, the declaration of the Lord, essentially the ‘cleasing of the land’ was prophetically pointing to the great hope of feasting on the mountain of the Lord, wherein God’s glory will be revealed. This is the New Covenant people & place of gathering, the Church. Correlating Ezekiel with Revelation (as well as the story of Esther), leaves us with a lasting word, God’s purpose’s prevails over His adversaries & it provides purpose for His people.
The Church is the Temple. In Ezekiel chapter 40 we find destructions of the prophesied Temple of God. Each detail, including but not limited to the walls, outer gates, inner gates, and the various rooms provide insights for our application. We mentioned insights found in the Book of Hebrews about the Temple and the work. We mentioned Jesus’ words regarding the ‘many rooms’ in the Father’s House in John 14 (each of us in Christ are a prepared room in the house of God). We talked about being prepared for good work (see, Ephesians ).
God’s purpose’s prevails over His adversaries & it provides purpose for His people.
